About

Drum Easy came about after a number of experiences during my teaching career.

I kept noticing that a lot of students were overwhelmed by traditional notation — particularly those with learning challenges. It often felt like they needed a solid base to start from. Something structured. Something clear. But without the overload.

That’s when the idea for a visual, simplified way of learning drums really began to form.

During my own time in school and college, I struggled with focus and attention. Secondary school in particular was stressful, and it put me off subjects I probably could have done well in if I’d had the right support in place. That experience stayed with me. I didn’t want my students feeling that same frustration.

So I started building something different.

Over the past two years, Drum Easy has been shaped directly by student feedback — what worked, what didn’t, what felt clear, and what didn’t. My youngest student is seven. My oldest is well into their sixties. Their input has played a huge part in what Drum Easy has become.

I also spent time teaching in schools where I’d have up to eight students in one room. It could be overwhelming — for them and for me. That pushed me to rethink how drum teaching could work in real school settings.

Now, sessions are built around smaller groups (maximum four), a structured and trackable syllabus, and a focus on actually learning proper drum technique — just delivered in a way that feels manageable, inclusive, and achievable.
